THE TIPPING POINT PART I

What exactly does the tipping point mean?  Well , I am sure that you are all acquainted with  "the hundredth monkey theory" OR "the straw that broke the camels back", the 'tipping point' seems to be more dynamic and a proven numbers of a turning point , a 'critcal mass' type of phenomenon.
Malcom Gladwell , author of the book (you guessed it ) THE TIPPING POINT defines it as a  "the moment of critical mass, the threshold, the boiling point." The book (The Tipping Point)  seeks to explain and describe the "mysterious" sociological changes that mark everyday life. As Gladwell states, "Ideas and products and messages and behaviors spread like viruses do." The examples of such changes in his book include the rise in popularity and sales of  shoes known as 'Hush Puppies' in the mid-1990s and the precipitous drop in the of the New York crime rate n the 1990's.

What exactly is a TIPPING POINT?

Well, on November  14th, 2010 at 6:40 am, it was determined that a world tipping point had been achieved, and the idea was that there are enough people on the planet that are sharers of information now to actually make a difference in the outcome of, let's say ,TRUTH, or CHANGE. This is great news for all of us.

According To Gladwell, there are 3 groups involved.

1. The Law of Few.   "The success of any kind of social epidemic is heavily dependent on the involvement of people with a particular and rare set of social gifts. According to Gladwell, economists call this the "80/20 Principle, which is the idea that in any situation roughly 80 percent of the 'work' will be done by 20 percent of the participants.

A.  Connectors are the people who "link us up with the world ... people with a special gift for bringing the world together." They are "a handful of people with a truly extraordinary knack for  making friends and acquaintances". He characterizes these individuals as having social networks of over one hundred people. . Gladwell attributes the social success of Connectors to "their ability to span many different worlds .They seem to have energy and self confidence.

                                                     Perhaps this is YOU?
                                                              --or--
B. Mavens are "information specialists", or "people we rely upon to connect us with new information."[4] They accumulate knowledge, and know how to share it with others.

                                                         -- OR --

C. Salesmen are "persuaders",  Charismatic  people with powerful negotiation skills. They tend to have an indefinable trait that goes beyond what they say, which makes others want to agree with them.

QUESTION: In  part one of this "Tipping Point Series", I would like to ask you which of the above characteristics to you have?   Examine yourselves and please comment as to what you see yourself as in the world, what type of personality or role do YOU play?  And can you identify some of your own family members as well?

Make it a fun exercise  and let's see where this goes!

Thanks for being here!  Welcome to my blog.
